Alton, Ia | My understanding of the deep bedded hoop barns is you don't remove the manure very often, just keep adding bedding. The one system I sort of linked to has the pigs farrow in the barn in these nesting boxes, then you remove the sows, keep the boxes for warmth for awhile, then remove the boxes. Keep feeding the hogs there until marketed, then clean it out and start over with farrowing. Supposedly you take the bedding, build a compost pile, and let nature go to it. Then you can spread it whenver ground conditions are best.
