Has anyone else heard about this program? You submit your field maps to FBN and they look at satellite imagery to verify forest hasn't been cleared to plant crops since the end of 2020. Supposedly this lets them meet European requirements for importation. All this stems from the idea of anthropogenic climate change and the policy surrounding it.
Initially the communication made it sound like a voluntary program to get a 20 cent premium, however now the location I deal with will only be taking these "deforestation free" beans. You will not be able to sell them beans at all after Sep 1st if you do not participate in the program by submitting field maps.
I surely can't be the only one who thinks this is crazy? I had liked doing business with my closest ADM location as the customer service was very good but this is making me think that I'll sell somewhere else if possible, I hate the idea of giving FBN my data after I had a poor experience with them in the past.

I'll assume you're speaking of Silver Grove, KY. So my first question is why cross the river to sell your grain? No secret none of the bridges in Cincinnati are in decent shape. I've never been to Silver Grove, but it sounds to me like them only accepting one kind of beans is a way for them to segregate them. They probably don't have enough bins to store everything and don't have manpower to load barges and keep it all separate, just a guess. The location is convenient for them, easy to float them to the gulf and then put on a big ship to cross the pond.

I'd say wait them out. $.20/bu is not enough to make me want to let FBN have anything to do with my operation. ADM will get the message when they don't have bushels coming to them. In the meantime, look into other outlets for your beans. I like Cargill on River Rd, Kellogg avenue is OK, but can get a line sometimes. Don't much care for CGB, slowest facility I've ever seen. I got some +.25 basis into Cargill Sidney for LH April FH May. Will find time to get them there on rain days during planting, or if it doesn't rain I'll get done planting and haul them

Yes, Silver Grove. I have done a good bit of business with them and Cargill Kellogg. I have always had good service from a merchandiser at silver Grove and can often drive over there past Kellogg, dump and get back before I would be through the line at Kellogg.
River road would be an annoying drive going past Kellogg on 275, back up into Ohio on 471 then over, it takes about an extra 20 min each way if there is no traffic.
I guess I'm just frustrated to see ADM doing this and I'm not about to give my data to FBN. Just seems like the first step on a slippery slope.
