If I was getting $2-4 more that the other local co-ops are paying, I'd be profitable. The steady check every month is nice. Right now my cows are worth more giving me a black calf and milk to feed said calves. We are in area where it's easier to grow forage than grain, with that being said we are blessed with amazing corn yields this year that is drying better than expected, coming out of the field in the low 20s.
Why is dairy farming so appealing to some folks?
