Central ND | Are you trying to control both at the same time with 1 keyboard?
Or are you just going to be using the keyboard for just the laptop and then just the desktop as needed or wanted?
The reason I ask is you may be able to use a laptop dock and then plug that into either the laptop or the desktop depending on which one you want to use at the time. Just have to find the right one with the right connections and make sure it connect to both your laptop and desktop.
I do not have experience with either a KVM or laptop dock but those would be my best guesses.
