Subject: Frost heaving pole barn posts

Farmington, Maine
Here’s a question for northern farmers

We have four feet of frost in my area. I want to build a wall buy putting posts in the ground down below frost and then pouring concrete in the hole. But have been told that frost will grab the rough edges of the concrete and lift the posts.

Any of you guys ever built something like this? Did you have problems with frost? Did you do something to fix this type of problem?

The four foot high wall will be supporting a Farmtek arch type structure so the top of the wall will have both down and side pressure on it that’s why I want to put concrete in the holes.

Thanks for any help you can offer.
