Subject: Topsoil loss this winter...........

East Palestine, Ohio (Columbiana Co.)
Sure is ugly around here with the snow gone. The freeze/thaw/rain/snow cycle we've been getting has just wreaked havoc on any fall tillage done on any rolling ground, no matter how slight the slope. A lot of the waterways that should be grass that are getting farmed and sprayed through are washed to the point of not being able to drive through, even (especially) the no-till. I'm sure FSA will be hit with record requests for establishing grass waterways.
I can't remember seeing so much dirt loss from one winter. Looks like the pictures from my enviromental science text book when I was in ninth grade(1972). Had many arguments with that teacher that farmers/farming practices were major causes of soil erosion/depletion. They could fill the textbook with prime example photos just from "here" in my little corner of the world. I hope this is localized thing, cause man, there sure is a lot of dirt missing from "here".
