South Central Kansas | After a few weeks of lurking, I finally registered. It's really interesting reading all of the crop and machinery comments.
I live in South Central Kansas, about 25 miles NE of the "Wheat capital of the world." I'm sure most of you on this forum have heard about the disastrous wheat crop here this year. First the Easter freeze, then the record rains before and during harvest. Worst wheat crop here since I've been farming. (36 years) Worst in this area since 1955 when I was 6 years old. We've had some down years, but this wheat crop was absolutely a train wreck. Older guys than me say they've never seen anything like that freeze. We cut a little over half of my 805 planted acres.
On the brighter side,we may have a record dryland corn crop for those that got it in on time. The rain shut off by the middle of July, but the cotton, milo and beans have been hanging on. A couple more timely rains will sure help.
It's great to read about what's going on in other places. | |
