| After having a challenging time during our Polar Blast a few years back I decided to overhaul my winter watering setup. Set a couple Mirafounts over a 24" poly culvert tubes turned vertical and set 7' deep. Set a 500 gallon concrete tank with an overflow at one end and a supply via a flexible poly pipe fed from underneath (did not want anything that could be broken off by a critter getting in the tank). Installed a curbstop valve to control flow. Trenched in 1 1/4" poly pipe nearly 5' deep from well pit and put a couple Iowa hydrants in along the line to fill sprayer and water a garden. Objective was to not chop ice again. Ever. This last little chill saw air temps in the negative 20's for the better part of a couple weeks. The six hole unit is fully exposed and is servicing a couple dozen head. We may not be as tough as the northern outfits but it'll do for us.
