Some years here they have to build smoke fires in the pastures for the livestock. Back when they plowed with mules they would put a burlap sack over the mules nose and and build a smoke on the plow in a bucket. I find that the mesh paint strainers for five gallon buckets make a good bug net to put over your had. Back years ago while plowing with a open LP gas 4020 I wore a knit tobogan type hood , even on some hot days, to keep them from biting me.
