Eastern Iowa | There's been about 100 reported cases of this particular flu in America, and only one death out of all of them.
Over 400 schools have been closed in the United States, however. Something is out of proportion.
It is likely that the local school boards are more afraid of liability lawyers than they are of the flu, but that is just one of the things that is wrong with this country right now. It's the same reason why the world stops when then there's an inch of snow in the morning--the minor risk of injury by a bus accident in a light snowfall is heavily outweighed by the costs to the district should one actually occur.
As much as I don't like this mindset, I realize they really have no other choice. There is a constant threat of a liability suit in nearly every walk of life these days.
