Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot | Agricultural burn could mean a lot of things. Understory burning of managed forest. Burning to eliminate brush on rangeland. Burning to stimulate range growth, etc.
We do a fair amount of field burning here. Most grain stubble going back to grain is burned. Most onion ground gets burned. Fair amount of ground getting spring worked for potatoes is burned as well.
I won't go into a long explaination of why it needs to be done, lets just say that at this elevation and this climate straw doesn't break down much. Fields that are worked in the fall tend to blow as well, and we have a short window to work in the spring. So leaving the stubble all winter and then burning it works well and is most cost effective. | |
