11 r 24.5 tires are harder to find. Metric 24.5s would be the best way to go if you want 24.5s. 11 r 22.5s are what a lot of fleet trucks are using because of the lower profile than the 24s they are supposed to be more fuel efficient. If a used trailer just leave as is, but if buying new, match tractor and trailer sizes, then you only need one size of spare, and when your steers or drives get thin, you can move them back to the trailer to get quite a few more miles without buying new tires right away.
