I agree that total wt. is the most important and also agree with most of your post. Always wondered though that when your heating corn and it has that sweet smell from cooking. Are you losing some dry matter?? Not much but is it some? A few years ago I posed this very question to some experts who could do a study on it but have not seem any data that answers the question.
Total wt. versus test wt. isn't important in most cases but when feeding chickens or making dog food it starts to get important in bad test wt. years. The chickens can't eat enough of thwe lower test wt corn. The dog food companies say that the bags they use will not hold enough lower test wt. corn. Once they roll and steam it, mix it with other stuff.
