Subject: RE: accounting software for farm quicken vs quickbooks

Minneota, MN
Quicken is good for people not experienced or educated in accounting principles. It works fine for anyone on cash basis accounting-the Quicken entries record cash transactions from your checking accounts, savings accounts, etc. Good standard and customizable reporting options.

QuickBooks is an accounting software package. It uses double-entry accounting, it can do invoicing, A/R, A/P and payroll, it can create profit and loss statements, balance statements, and the like.

In my opinion, QuickBooks is for users who know and understand accounting principles. If you buy Quickbooks and you don't know accounting, you will be setting yourself up for frustration and failure.

I've used QuickBooks for nearly 20 years and it's great software, but I know accounting. My 79 year old mom has used Quicken for 30 years and it works fine for my folk's farm, cash-basis accounting needs.

Good luck!
