Ancient technology, but one of these would be fun.(If someone else paid the ammo bill ;-)
My uncle tells of spending most of WW2 running up and down the west coast highways in a White halftrack with a Quad 50 mounted in the bed. He was one of the guys loading ammo and clearing jams. Said he made a mistake, like a crew of 19 year olds are apt to do. He was standing with his head about a foot to the side of one of those 50 cal muzzles when the gunner cut loose. He thinks both ear drums about met in the middle of his head. As a result he had hearing problems all his adult life. just a couple years ago, he was at the VA hiospital for a checkup and happened to mention his hearing trouble and why it happened.
The VA rep asked why he did not report that back in the 40's ? Uncle said he was seeing boat loads of guys coming back with no arms or legs while he was state side and had never seen combat, only patrol duty. Also thought it was partly his fault for being in the wrong spot when the gunner spun the mount around and cut loose.

VA rep said" Makes no difference , it's service related." The VA got him a set of new hearing aids when he was in his early 80's
