SW Saskatchewan | Ditto on the ultra-wings- before the roundup treatment for our sandy acres (don't know what those are, do you Ed?) the nichols ultra wing would be a pit- any straw, root or any object in the soil(including fence staples) would catch and drag along that Nike swoosh and a very rough field would result.
Cultivator sweeps come in different "lift" classes, a low lift style coupled with a slow ground speed would give you a straw retention close to what a Noble Blade would do.
Same problems though, only cultivate on days with not a cloud in the sky. RH down in the 10% range and 90 degree plus. Start at 6 in the morning and quit at 4 in the afternoon.
Kill every weed- but if you didn't follow the recipe you were out on the tractor for the pure fun of getting away from the wife.
Now we only do tillage when we want dirt movement- basically to get rid of gopher and badger holes and we are not quite the same "sweep snobs" as before- just that a McKay clipped wing is the best sweep out there. | |
