SCMN | It's a bit saddening to think of things the way you painted it Po...but you are probably right on the money. I love farming and it's all I want to do but I don't want to have to become a "Megafarmer" to make it. The thought of outside money rushing in is downright scary. It will ruin family agriculture for good. Sure, some certain Mega operations call themselves "family farms" but are they really? I'm talking about an average sized grower who owns half his land, rents the other half, owns all his machinery and does his own maintenance, markets his own grain, hauls it himself, and his family has been on the same ground for well over 100 years. He's the guy who wants nothing more than to make a decent living and pass on his legacy to his children someday. That is a FAMILY FARM! Mine has been on the same yard since 1866. | |
