As far as I know, all of the 71XX and 72xx series came from the factory with Bosch alternators. As the other posters have stated, you most likely need new brushes. The brushes come as part of an assembly with the regulator. It is just two screws holding the brush/regulator assy in the back of the alternator, but if you have a dust shield on back of the alt. you will have to remove it first. The brush/reg assy is $115.88 from Case-IH. I have a replacement brush/regulator available for 55.00 plus 5.50 shipping. I have used many of these with no problems at all. As common as this problem is, if you have one of these tractors it may be a good idea to keep a spare brush/regulator on hand. Case-IH gets $ 292.00 exchange for a rebuilt alt, so replacing the brush/reg is very cost effective. I may be putting some of these brush/regulators on Ebay and see how they sell. If anyone would like one give me a call.
