Owings, Maryland 38.6856 N 76.6752 W | Actually the anchor bolts extend through the pad and through the floor and are bolted underneath. The gear boxes shown on either side of the reducer, have anchor bolts which go down into the foundation of the bridge.
Opening and closing the bridge is almost effortless for the equipment as the leaves are so closely balanced with counterweight. But everything is built better than a sherman just in case of a failure of one of the components. |
