I completely concur with Ed. If you've been using dial-up all this time and you get a 1.5Mbps download, 384Kbps upload DSL line, you'll be completely blown away by how fast your network response is. I consider myself a very heavy bandwidth user and I'd be completely content with 1.5Mbps on the download side -- that's T1 speeds, if you actually get 1.5Mbps from your DSL provider. And, as Ed notes, you can always upgrade later. Ask your provider whether you'd have to pay another installation fee to upgrade, or whether it would just be a configuration change on the DSLAM. If you're close enough to the CO, I'd wager the increase in speed would be a configuration change and possibly a new DSL "modem" and not much more. |
