Subject: more on equipment lighting

Seymour, IL
Following up on the post below about outlining the size of the equipment, I found the following from Bob Aherin from Univ of IL Extension:

"If at all possible, farmers should avoid operating their equipment on public roadways at night because it takes motorists longer to recognize your equipment," says Aherin. "If you must move your equipment at night, use your flashing warning lights and have at least one amber flashing light visible to both the front and back on the far left side of any implement or wagon so motorists can determine how wide the equipment is."

I have seen way too many vehicles with only red facing rear lights. I am sure many producers think by having lights it is enough...Illinois law has specific requirements, especially amber lighting that can be seen from both front and rear.

just a fyi as we all get ready to head to the fields this spring
