Subject: RE: white disk openers

Our book says replace at 14". Ours are 14 1/2" right now, I think we'll run another year. Dealer wants $40 for new HD blade and bearing. We put them on new about 4500 acres ago, (on a 16 row planter) we used the heavy dics on one row and they measure about 1/8" bigger right now. My question is when to replace the seed tube guard. The tips on a few of ours are broke off. I suppose when they get narrower than the seed tube they have to be replaced, because then the discs will start rubbing on the seed tube instead of the guard, and the plastic seed tube will wear out real quick. I wonder if Agco switched to a different brand of bearings on the disc openers a few years ago, we used to never have a bearing go out, now it seems commonplace, has anyone else noticed this?
