If you are talking varitarget I have a set on a sidedress rig so I could switch rate on the go. They weren't cheap but work well. On a spray boom situation they will drop down a couple of inches and expose your tips to ground strike, I can see where it would lead to needing replacement varitargets on a regular basis if you just barely touched it to something.
