I guess I don't understand what the problem with it is?
I can see not wanting to pay extra for it, but if it's there and it's included in the deal I don't see what it would possibly hurt to have it.
As for value....if you were trying to buy one, it would likely cost you $5k. Changing it out is going to require finding a 2wd axle if I remember IH right.
