| I"m with Ed, a proper crimp outlasts solder every time. Solder wicks into the stranded wire and makes its stiff at the lug, so strands break when the wire is vibrated or flexed. A good crimp requires a tool made specifically for that lug and has a ratchet to make sure its closed all the way.
Soldering guns have never been competent. Weller were better than Wen (which tends to go too high in temperature). Temperature control is non existent. You start with the tip cold and you heat it and a you hold the trigger the tip heat passes through soldering range and goes on to solder burning range, so then you have to clean it and retin it and start over.
My favorite soldering iron is a Weller 100 watt temperature controlled sold for working leaded glass. W100PG. At Mouser its catalog number 578-W100PG.
