Subject: RE: Building a self-propelled sprayer

Southwest Missouri
We built a 500 gal, 60 foot boom sprayer from a Gleaner E. The engine was in good shape as well as the transmission, front axle, and cab.

We found it easier to strip off the parts we wanted and build a new frame. We built the frame with 5 1/2 inch pipe, largely because we had a lot of it from another project. It would have been better to use rectangular tubing.

We used a valve bank from a Gleaner L so that we have electric over hydraulic controls. It is two wheel drive. It has the variable speed from a v belt. I am certain that the sprayer will not get stuck in mud unless we really tried to do so. It will certainly drive where our two wheel drive tractors would get stuck.

The rig works pretty good. We keep hoping to add a heater and a/c, but we never seem to have the time.

We have Gleaner M that we still run sometimes. With the hydro and rear wheel assist, it would make a great donor machine for a larger sprayer, but we do not need a larger sprayer.
