I'm pretty sure that the engine wouldn't knock, it just wouldn't run properly since diesel is a lot more stable then gas, with a higher flash point, etc. This is why diesels run really high compression. If you put gas in a diesel then you will have really big problems with detonation and since gas is so much drier the injection pump might get screwed too. But as far as diesel in a gas job, drain the tank and there won't be any permanent engine damage. I'm not sure about the new direct injection gas engines, like Audi, etc has diesel might damage those injection systems I'm not sure.

Ps. I actually know someone that used to blend diesel into the gas he used for his old white combine, he said it gave better lubrication. Of course, I can't say that was the smartest thing to do, but it did run.
