Do they grip okay on the hard plastic?

I put one which is similar to that in our 35 the other day (knob for the PTO lever in a Challenger) but I wrapped it with friction tape first because I didn't think the hard ball would provide very good grip.

I wondered if this one might be better http://www.mcmaster.com/#60975k76/=xlfwm ?
