Jeff, Make sure the boot end of the conveyor does not have anything the impedes the flow of material, such as a hole in the boot or worn pieces of metal protruding. Also check on the drive end to make sure both of the sprockets are where they are supposed to be in relation to each other and aligned with the idler sprockets on the outfeed end.

As for the roller chain- make sure it fits the sprockets correctly. If it is worn and does not fit down into the teeth of the sproket it may have a tendency to jump the sprocket. Is the roller chain tight enough? Take the shield off to make sure you don't have a build-up of debris around the chain.

I have run a 940 many years with the criss-cross design and have had very good luck with it.
