It is confusing, I know. There was a year or two in there where Deere went to a heavy-duty welded shank, then they introduced the cast shank, which I believe is the only one offered on new planters these days. Cast shank = good, i.e., very durable. Some of their other lingo designates whether it has flex-shaft (cable) drive or not.
