Subject: Anyone use tranny fluid to clean diesel injectors??

Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577

We might have dirty injectors in a C15.........loss of power, black smoke, turbos were torn down and nothing wrong with them..............appears to be possible injectors, or just needing new filters.

(Apparently the Cat fuel filter for the C-15 is some special deal that has really tiny filtering capability that the Cat filters are much much better than even Fleetguard??????, since Cat told us to use Cat filter on that one filter, and Fleetguard would be ok for rest........but no NAPA---ever.)

During the inquiries, we were told that we should be putting in some tranny fluid into the diesel fuel periodically to clean up the injectors--------especially the ones in the C15 since they are so small-------or, use something like Howes injector cleaner.

One guy said that he has seen mechanics pour tranny fluid directly into the air intakes, and the injectors cleaned up nearly immediately................??

Spending the money for a commercial injector cleaner does not bother me.......but, given that some of the shelf stuff is hype vs action, and "the boys" swear by the tranny fluid.............maybe the tranny fluid would be better????

Comments appreciated.

Thanks.
