Northeast Louisiana | I'd ask the SOB just who in the hell he thought he was going into my shop and fooling with my equipment, threaten him with a tresspassing charge, and tell him if he ever pulled that crap again I'd shoot his sorry a$$.
I'd also call the dealership owner or manager and complain, and tell them that if any tools come up missing from my shop, he's the prime suspect. And since they are ultimately legally responsible for anything he does on company time, you expect them to replace anything that comes up missing. At the least, this will get him a reprimand from his boss.
I've been in sales, and I can understand him paying a courtesy call telling you that he hates he missed the sale and hopes you can do business in the future or something, but to go into your shop and fool around with your new piece of equipment is WAY over the line. Bottom line is, he missed the sale and you don't owe him an explanation.
