Northeast Indiana (Auburn) | There should have been a red 40amp fuse taped in the brake controller harness if you bought the truck new and it had a trailering package on the invoice. The fuse goes in the upper right corner of the fuse box on the drivers side fender in the engine compartment. There is a dummy plug in it from the factory. If it did not have a trailering package there will be no fuse in the harness. If there is a fuse in the fuse box and it is blown then you either will have a short in the truck plug or the wire in the plug is corroded enough you are not getting contact. By the way the brake controller harness has nothing to do with the hot wire to the trailer battery. In other words the wire used to charge the battery is hot all of the time even when the truck is shut off. If you are talking about a RV trailer make sure to unplug the trailer from the truck at night when you are parked or you might draw down your truck battery if the trailer battery gets used up.
