the only thing we found that works is to spray it first then come spring you can chisel it. A disc chisel will leave it rough, Not quite as rough as a chisel with no coulters but close. You may be better off plowing it if you want to do it this fall. I would still spray it and wait till spring. Only thing is if it's real wet ground the dead grass will hold the moisture in the spring.
