When I was looking last year, almost everyone on this site recommended Seagate. I am very impressed with it. It will move files as fast as you can watch or listen to them over the USB port. Mine is a 160GB and I paid $99.95 for it at Best Buy last spring. I see that when I was there last week they had them for that price as what I believe to be a regular deal. They make them up to 500GB as far as I know. One thing that was attractive when I bought mine was that they were offering a 5 year warranty. Whether or not they are still offering that, I don't know, but the the notebook HD I just bought is covered for 5 years.
