Those are the covers that were used on smaller utility tractors 30 and 40 series and are used in many other JD applications as well.

They are shorter though and it appears in your picture there is  another spacer ring for lack of a better description that was also used because of the longer filter used ? I've not seen that spacer part mentioned before.

Edit: Pic 3 is from looking up a 4240 parts booklet and appears to show the extension filter housing.

This comes from the Power Shift section of the parts book but it appears your 4240 in the picture only has 1 filter where my 4040 has 2 filters on a Powershift.

Is yours a Quad Range ? I'm pretty sure all the covers are interchangeable but you may or may not need the extension based on what length filter cover is on the tractor you want to use.
