from the main screen, ->tap "run" then-->"mark" (i think) should be gps status indicated by 1,2,or 3 bars and i think it does display lat lon in upper corner.
it really depends on thesoftware version of afs. they seem to have changed the screen layout everytime they did a software revision. i know on the latest version you see an icon on the side of the screen lit up black -'DGPS" when all is well.
Sounds to me like you have everything hooked up fine anyway
