Kittitas Co. Wa. State | I don't know about your growing conditions, weather, time of year you want to plant, etc.. But years ago we grew seed peas, decided to bale up the straw after the combine did it's thing. Dad said,, "well maybe we can use it for bedding.." (like grain straw) Well Winter came around n' I put out a few ton of Pea straw bales.. Next morning,, NOT one TWIG of Pea straw could be found. After cows had had a party running through the bales,, some started to "taste",, and pretty soon the whole herd was sucking up the pea straw like candy. Found out later,, it was loaded with sugars.
It was NASTY LOOKING dry basically looked like dried baled weeds,, but Cows got FAT eating the stuff. We fed Pea straw rest of the winter,, used wheat straw for Straw....... | |
