Subject: Dormancy ratings in alfalfa

Parsons Kansas
Last night I started looking at alfalfa choices from K-State here in Kansas. The best yielding alfalfa in my area has a dormancy rating of 5. What little alfalfa I've got planted is all a 4 rating. I'm just wondering what is the real difference. I'm in Southeast Kansas where "normally" our frost date is Oct. 15th. It seems that can vary as much as two weeks or so. How big of a difference is yhere between a 4 and a 5? Thanks Darren
