Subject: Re: jump start on canola

Brandon MB
Glensts, good to know. We have ordered a bunch of canola seed with jumpstart this year, figured the $5 would be better spent on it then 5 extra lbs of phos. With canola we place our phos in a sideband with 100+lbs of N and from what I've read plant roots are unable to access the phos in a sideband with high rates of N 85+, this fact is another reason why we decided to try some jumpstart with our canola. We have liked the results on peas, but to tell you the truth we've never tried anything else.
Westco is apparently releasing some studies in the new year they did on jumpstart, basically they never found a yield response to it in 70 trials. They found that it definitely helped the plant to take up more phosphate early season, but that it never translated into yield. I wonder what philom bios will say if they release that data?.:)
