Subject: Variable rate seed and N

Leesburg, Ohio
We are considering trying variable rate seed and Nitrogen on our corn acres next year. We would be using our existing GS2 screens, and purchasing one Rawson drive that we would switch between the planter (1760 JD 12 row) and N applicator (DMI pull-type with 850 gal tank and 11-coulter injection bar and Blue pump.)

I have lots of questions...

Any of you have experience with similar setups? Cautions/problems? Can you see the benefits in increased yield?

What have you based your prescriptions on? Varis? Yield maps? Soil types? Grid samples?

Does the GS2 talk directly to the Rawson, or do we need to run the rawson off the JD Rate Controller box? We already use the Rate controller to run the planter clutches...will this conflict? What about harnesses? Deere seems to be very proud of their wires and plugs!

How is the reliability of the Rawson and GS2? I would hate to replace the ground drive wheels with a computer that keeps me on the endrows when the sun is shining!

responses to any of the above questions would be welcome! thanks!
