Subject: Re: lime corrects what conditions?

Northeast Louisiana
It raises the pH of the soil to treat acidic conditions. At lower pH levels (acidic), certain nutrients become bound in the soil making them less available for the plants. Lime (Calcium Carbonate) is a base, so it will raise the pH of the soil. Calcitic lime also adds calcium, and Dolomitic lime adds calcium and magnesium.

If you have alkaline soils, you don't need to apply lime. We have lime in our groundwater around here, so our irrigated farmland doesn't require any additional lime. Hope this helps.
