I have a DELL X5 and have used a Socket ruggedized serial card with it. I do not remember having any problems with the DELL/Socket combination. It has been a long time ago, but the X5 still has a Socket driver on it, although the card itself seems to be lost. I do remember having some confusion changing the port assignments in Farmworks Site Mate. I normally use a CF card GPS with it.
