central - east central Minnesota -

rollig - 11/6/2008 16:06 How could they harvest beans in that much snow? Are you sawing that they ran snow through the combines? Wouldn't that plug the ever living heck out of it? Wouldn't the beans go right out the back? I'm not being a smart alec, just curious.

As posted by budweiserfarmer, Yes it works fine. The snow breaks up to a fine power and blows right out. The perticular field that year was low ground that would be flooded out in the spring - winter harvest was pretty much the only option to salvage what was there. It must be cold for the snow to not melt and stick. The field was free of rocks - rocks could pose a problem buried under the snow . . .  if you know what I mean :0 I have harvested corn with snow on it a few times - at that time, mostly at night, so it would blow out.
