Agree with the heavier soils thing. The corn stalks themselves don't seem to hurt anything, but early planting around here likes alittle dirt work for better(quicker) emergence, and wheat stubble, this year, chiseling and disking would have been cheaper/better than what I went through battling the '08 "slugfest" here in my no-til acres.

But, that's just "here", and "this year", and, I agree with Ed that a new/ modern drill can help make a world of difference in the stand you get. When I get my share of the "Bail-Out" billions, I'll be up-dating my "89 Great Plains 10' end wheel no-til and my mid-nineties? 15' coulter cart Marliss. Til then, I'll probably chisel at least my wheat stubble.........
