The standard around here is the Demco L'thumper pump. That's a piston pump. Most planters are set up with a set of redball columns and then a metering orifice somewhere in the line.

If you're anywhere close to southern MN, contact www.ld-ag.com Nearly every planter around has a L&D fertilizer system. The equipment dealers won't touch it, they send you to L and D.

Good Luck. Sorry I can't comment on the electric pump. I've never seen anyone use one.
