I have a 1500 wean to finish barn. I need to file a MMP because I am over 500A.U.. If I would have put up a 1000 head barn and a 500 hd nursery. I would have had only 450 A.U., thence no MMP. Exact same production!
When the rules changed from weight based to animal unit based, the sow unit fell below the threshold and now we don't need a MMP for it.
