Kingston, Iowa | I was looking for a program to run on my laptop that I could import maps into and use as a reference to find Fertilizer trials I had done in the field. A Google search turned up a freeware program GPS Map Explorer. I think it was originally written for plotting in a boat because it even has an auto pilot feature. Anyway I was able to bring in a JPEG of the map I created in SMS and calibrate it with a procedure that is similar to what I have used in Farmworks before. I got it to the field today with the laptop hooked to a Garmin 18 and it worked very well. The map recenters itself as you travel and can be zoomed so you can find a set of rows pretty easily. Pretty good for a free program.
