Nusbaum Farms LLC Bellfountain, OR | Since I was rained out yesterday, I decided to get the 4020 load shaft seal job taken care of. After I got the load shaft out, I shined a flashlight in the bore, and lo and behold, a piece of broken casting in the bottom of the case. The park pawl had not worked since mid-summer and I had assumed that it was a linkage problem, but this made me suspicious so I removed the tin cover from the top of the case. Has anyone seen this before?
I'm surprised that it didn't jump into the gears and cause a big failure. Now my question. I can't seem to find in the service manual how to replace the pawl. I'm thinking that I need to split the tractor and pull the clutch pack so I can access the park pawl shaft. The rockshaft housing will need to be removed too, I'm thinking. Which way will the shaft then slide? We just had the tranny rebuilt 2 years ago, so I hate the fact that it has to split again. I think it's going to do without for awhile, 'til I have more time & more room in the shop.
