We've made them from steel as well as aluminum. Either we welded them up or had them bent at the local steel fabricators shop. To be honest, all our roll overs were made in our shop. The "correct" material was usually what ever we had an excess of on the steel rack. I did buy a hunk of shur lock type tatch plate and cut it into 2 or 3 ft sections one time as well. I know that usually, the latch plate is supposed to run the full length of the box. None of ours do, we haven't lost a tarp. Yet anyway.
